GTA:IV / IV:MP - Backup files OUTDATED, TO BE UPDATED on: June 28, 2014, 08:34:52 pm. Welcome to IV:MP Support. Backup files requests are welcome however keep in mind that uploading big archives can be difficult. IV:MP T3 Client -mirror. Theorically deleting the update.rpf file (or whatever you modified with OpenIV) will make Steam (and as i read, R. Warehouse) redownload that missing file. You don't have to delete it, you can just move to somewhere else different from the original place it's on, so you can just have the original file and the modded one.

GTA 4 Game Save Location

You may wish to access your Grand Theft Auto 4 saves for modding, or to modify them in some way. It's also good practice to back up your game saves every now and then in case they are ever corrupted, or your computer runs into issues. Whatever the reason for needing to access them, you can find them on Windows at the following path:

To go to this path, simply:

  1. Open up File Explorer - this can be done by right clicking your start menu button in the bottom left hand corner of your screen and clicking File Explorer
  2. Paste %LocalAppData%Rockstar GamesGTA IVsavegames into the address bar at the top of the File Explorer window and hit ENTER
  3. And that's you inside your GTA 4 game saves folder!

Versions

1.0.8.0 IV / 1.1.3.0 EFLC and older

These are the versions used before the March 19, 2020 update. These versions contain Games for Windows Live and lock their save files to each GFWL user, preventing the save files from being shared with other users by default.
In order to share save files or load shared save files, you must install a mod that removes or disables GFWL, such as Xliveless.
1.0.8.0/1.1.3.0 and older cannot load saves from version 1.2.0.32 and higher without downgrading the save file.

1.2.0.32 CE

This is the version from the March 19, 2020 update. This update removed Games for Windows Live and replaced it with the Rockstar Games Launcher. With this update, save files are able to be shared between users without using mods. The save file locations were also moved (see below).
1.2.0.32 can load saves from older versions of the game, but not 1.2.0.43 without downgrading the save file..

1.2.0.43 CE

At the time of writing this, this is the most recent version. This update added 3 radio stations to the game.
1.2.0.43 can load saves from all previous versions of the game.
